Legislative Update #4

March 19, 2021

The conclusion of the third week of session saw several bills of interest to PTA move forward. Bills passed by committees this week are highlighted in yellow, bills that passed the entire House or Senate are highlighted in green. 

Bills that moved this week

HB 5, Civic Education Curriculum passed all its committees and is now on the House floor. HB 51 has passed the Early Learning and Elementary Education Subcommittee. HB 529 (Moments of Silence) passed the House. HB 1475 (Sex-specific Student Athletic Teams or Sports) passed its first committee.

SB 86 (Bright Futures) passed the Senate Education Committee and is on its way to the next committee. College and even high school students from around the state, traveled to the Capitol to testify against the bill. The bill passed on a party line vote. This bill has no House companion yet. SB 146 (Civic Education) and SB 380, (Child Restraint Requirements) passed the Senate. Thank you for your calls and emails to our senators in support of this bill.
